Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka (GCSM) is a welcoming, non-residential cancer support community that exists so that no one faces cancer aloneTM. Our mission is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer - men, women, teens and children – are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.
 
THE ROLE
 
Reporting to the CEO, the Development Director will be responsible for creating and executing GCSM’s fundraising strategy including identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major and annual donors and corporate/foundation partners. The Development Director will build a robust call culture, employing metrics and moves management techniques to track and secure gifts from high net worth individuals, foundations and corporations. An innovative and strategic thinker, the successful candidate will create opportunities and chart new territory in the area of fund development.
 
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned fundraising professional who is polished and self-assured, a relationship builder with business acumen, yet community-driven as well. The ability to create a fundraising strategy for the long-term sustainability of GCSM will be a big priority for this role. This role requires ambition, creativity, flexibility and experience leading an expanded Development program to generate $800,000 to $1million per year.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Strategic Planning and Fund Development:
  • Set and achieve revenue targets as outlined by the Board and ensure the viability of diverse revenue generating programs (i.e. donations, foundations, sponsorships and special events).
  • Develop the annual Development Plan and present to the Board of Directors
  • Maintain a proactive and effective leadership role in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of corporate, individual (major gifts and planned giving), and foundation contributions.
  • Lead, manage, and continually mentor development staff.
  • Provide detailed reports of fundraising progress to the CEO, the Development Committee and the Board on a regular basis.
 
Major Gifts:
  • Manage a prospect portfolio and carry out moves management in accordance with a strategy designed to result in increased philanthropic support for GCSM.
  • Identify, research, cultivate and solicit prospects capable of contributing major gifts.
  • Research, cultivate, steward and establish new relationships with grant, foundation and corporate supporters.
  • Work with volunteer committee to coordinate the writing of new foundation grants.
  • Communications:
  • Create a communications plan that will include social media, website, print collateral, annual reports.
  • Represent GCSM at various speaking engagements, presentations and community engagement opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed three years of postsecondary education in a relevant field of study that may include, but is not limited to, Fundraising, Business, Marketing, or Communications.
  • At least five years of progressive experience in fundraising – CFRE designation is an asset or demonstration of qualification to complete the CRFE certification process.
  • Experience leading a fundraising team an asset.
  •  A successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting individual donors, corporations and foundations. Also, an effective “closer”.
  • Proven skills in leading and communicating fundraising strategy.
  • Experience with utilizing Social Media for fundraising.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgets.
  • Ability to report on fundraising activities clearly and concisely, with appropriate metrics and financial data.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • A versatile, skilled and effective communicator with demonstrable evidence of strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment both independently and as part of a team.
  • A self-starter, with an entrepreneurial spirit and drive.
